Being as substance of matter and form.

– Hylomorphism

Welcome! This site is an educational resource for lay and professional philosophers and theologians alike who are interested in hylomorphism. I fell in love with this philosophy during graduate studies at Holy Apostles College and Seminary. Basically, what it means is that we can not only think of situations in terms of matter and form, but also situational causes and purposes. For example, we might ask “what is the matter” when someone comes to us with a problem where matter become a definite issue. Problematic matter assumes form. Eventually, we discover who and/or what might have caused a problem as well as reasons for the problem in the first place. Everything can be analyzed and synthesized this way. This philosophy can even be used to understand the how bread and wine is essentially changed into the body and blood of Christ.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16).
